Mattel is bringing its “Masters of the Universe” franchise to two video game formats, releasing a role-playing game on Roblox and opening pre-orders for a retro-style brawler on consoles.

Mattel Game Studios, in partnership with developer Twin Atlas, has released “Masters of the Universe: Battle for Grayskull” on Roblox, available worldwide.

The faction-based action role-playing game lets players fight alongside He-Man and the Heroic Warriors or Skeletor and the Evil Warriors as they battle for control of Castle Grayskull. Mattel says the game draws on both the latest “Masters of the Universe” film and decades of franchise lore, with gameplay designed for Roblox.

According to Mattel, players can explore locations across the fictional world of Eternia, including Snake Mountain and Subternia, complete quests, defeat bosses, and collect loot. They can also use weapons, unlock abilities, and customize their playstyle through a skill tree.

“The best experiences on Roblox are built with the platform, its community and its players in mind,” said Sean Thompson, vice president of Mattel Game Studios. “With Masters of the Universe: Battle for Grayskull, our goal wasn’t simply to bring Masters of the Universe to Roblox; it was to build an experience that belongs there while staying true to the characters, world and action that have made the franchise a fan favorite for generations.”

A New Brawler for Consoles

Pre-orders are now open for “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe: Dragon Pearl of Destruction,” which is scheduled for release Feb. 4, 2027.

The game was developed by Mattel, Bitmap Bureau, and Clear River Games, and will be available digitally and physically on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S and X.

The company describes the game as a retro-inspired 2D brawler with art drawn from the 1980s animated series.

In the story, Eternia is under siege from Skeletor and his army, and players take on the roles of He-Man, Man-At-Arms, and Teela. She-Ra can be unlocked as a playable character in later playthroughs.

The game supports two-player local co-op and includes 13 stages, from the Royal Palace and Vine Jungle to Snake Mountain. Players can also ride He-Man’s companion Battle Cat. Villains include Skeletor, Evil-Lyn, Beast Man, and Trap Jaw.

The standard physical edition can be pre-ordered through Clear River Games and will be sold at major gaming retailers. It has a suggested retail price of $29.99 USD or 29.99 euros.

Limited Run Games is also offering two exclusive physical editions. The Standard Edition, priced at $29.99, includes a game case with cover art by Freddie Williams II, a disc or cartridge, a booklet, and a foiled, embossed slipcover.

The Collector’s Edition is priced at $99.99, or 110.95 euros, 90 pounds, or 140.99 Canadian dollars. It includes everything in the Standard Edition plus:

  • A collector’s box designed by CultureFly.
  • Lunchbox-style packaging.
  • A steel case.
  • Epoxy character pin badges.
  • A He-Man Power Sword replica and stand.
  • An acrylic standee of He-Man riding Battle Cat.

While supplies last, the first customers to pre-order the Collector’s Edition will receive a “Masters of the Universe” Origins He-Man 5.5-inch action figure, according to the company.
