Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug & Cat Noir is being adapted as a live-action series, co-produced by See-Saw Films and Miraculous Corp.

The new show is based on the popular animated series of the same name, created by Thomas Astruc, Jeremy Zag and Nathanaël Bronn.

See-Saw Films and Miraculous Corp. are separate companies, but both are owned by Mediawan.

Emme Hoy, a writer and co-executive producer on season two of See-Saw’s thriller “Sweetpea,” will adapt the series. Hoy has also written multiple episodes of the BBC’s upcoming espionage series “Honey.”

Emme Hoy is adapting the popular animated series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir, into a live-action show.

The companies said the show is built to reach a broad and older audience while appealing to the franchise’s existing fan base.

As in the animated series, the show follows classmates Marinette and Adrien, who fight side by side as the superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir, without knowing each other’s real identities. The series is set in a Paris described as both dark and romantic, is rooted in an ancient mythology of creation and destruction, and is planned to run across multiple seasons.

Elisabeth d’Arvieu, Mediawan’s group chief content officer and CEO of Mediawan Pictures, said the project reflects the company’s studio model.

“This project illustrates the strength of Mediawan’s international studio model: its ability to bring together renowned creative talent, leading production expertise, and a shared ambition behind one of the world’s most popular animated franchises,” d’Arvieu said. “The partnership between See-Saw Films and Miraculous Corp combines the complementary expertise of two Mediawan companies to open a new chapter for Miraculous and further expand this iconic franchise internationally.”

Maria Nicholson, an executive producer at See-Saw Films, said the format suits the story’s emotional core.

“Miraculous has always been, at its heart, a story about the distance between who we are and who we let people see,” Nicholson said. “Live action gives us the space to really feel that — to let it breathe, to let it hurt. At See-Saw, we’re aiming to build something with the emotional intimacy of a great romance and the scale of a genuinely epic superhero story. I think audiences are going to fall in love with these characters all over again.”

Heath Kenny, chief content officer at Miraculous Corp, called the project a defining step for the franchise.

“For more than a decade, Miraculous has connected with audiences around the world through characters and stories that inspire, entertain and resonate emotionally across generations,” Kenny said. “This is a defining next step for the franchise. For the first time, we are bringing Marinette and Adrien’s story into live action, in a bold new format designed both for the millions of fans who have grown up with them and for audiences discovering this extraordinary world for the first time.

“See-Saw Films and Emme Hoy bring an exceptional ability to create ambitious, emotionally sophisticated stories with genuine global appeal,” he added, “making them the ideal creative partners for this exciting new chapter.”

The animated series is distributed by Mediawan Kids & Family in more than 150 countries and is available on platforms and broadcasters including Disney Channel, Disney+, Netflix, Globo and TF1.

Now in its sixth season, it recently ranked No. 1 among more than 850 school-age titles tracked worldwide by Parrot Analytics, according to the companies.

Season seven is scheduled for a late 2026 launch.

The franchise has 54 million YouTube subscribers, more than 55 billion lifetime views and an average of 900 million monthly views, the companies said. They added that 82% of adult viewers and 60% of social followers are ages 16 to 24.

See-Saw is the production company behind “Slow Horses” and “Heartstopper.” The live-action series is executive produced by Maria Nicholson, Iain Canning, Emile Sherman, Simon Gillis and Ben Irving for See-Saw, and by Hoy. Nicky Earnshaw of See-Saw is co-producer. Mediawan Rights handles worldwide sales.
