The New York Comic-Con (NYCC) was inundated in a sea of blue and red as hundreds of Spider-Men took over the event in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record.
The two companies were trying to smash the current record of 685 people showing up to NYCC in authentic Spider-Man outfits.
Sadly, the attempt fell just short, but a spokesperson said the event itself was a huge success.

“Talk about a spectacular sight! While the crowd fell just short of breaking the existing record of 685 participants, the event was still an incredible celebration of everyone’s favorite web-slinger, with hundreds of fans suiting up for an unforgettable moment that brought the Spider-Man fandom together in a big way.”
Jazwares is the official costume partner for Marvel’s Spider-Man, and the company knows that with great costumes comes great responsibility.
Jazwares certainly did its part, providing hundreds of Spider-Man costumes in adult and kid sizes to help participants break the world record. Spider-Men of all shapes and sizes filled the halls of the Javits Center, ensuring no super-villains could ruin the day.
“As an official costume partner for Marvel, this is our way of bringing that spirit to life for fans in a way only Jazwares can do,” said Jazwares’ president Jeremy Padawer. “We’re inviting Spider-Man fans to show up, suit up, and help us make history.”

The record attempt required the legion of Spider-Men to gather at the NYCC Main Stage at 8 p.m., where an official Guinness World Records adjudicator was on hand to verify the results.
Unfortunately, the world record attempt failed by just a few humanoid arachnids, but judging by the hundreds of smiles behind those masks, the event itself was a great success.
No word yet on whether there will be another attempt next year to break the record.
