Fans of the “Warrior Cats” book series can now step into the paws of their own cat in a new role-playing game, “Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest.”
TRAILMARK Games and Four Trees Media say the action-adventure game is available now on Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and S, and PC through Steam and the Epic Games Store.
“Warrior Cats” was created by Working Partners, a Coolabi Group company, and written by Erin Hunter. The book series follows clans of wild cats and has sold more than 90 million copies worldwide. It has been translated into 38 languages and has appeared on the New York Times bestseller list for 20 consecutive years.
The Warrior Cats game adaptation lets players create and customize a warrior cat, choose a clan, and defend it in turn-based combat, according to the companies. They also can forage, craft, and rise through the clan’s ranks. The game tells a new story featuring cats and locations from the franchise, as well as an original cast.
The companies say the game includes four story campaigns, one for each of the four clans, each with its own prophecies, rivalries, and characters. Players can pick fur patterns, colors, tails, whiskers, ears, eyes, and markings for their cats. They also can decorate a den with unlockable items and show it off to friends through asynchronous online visits.
The game’s territories include forests, marshes, moorlands, and landmarks such as the Moonpool and the Island. In combat, players use timing and tactics and can call on ancestor attacks granted by StarClan, the spirits of past warriors in the series. Choices made during the game affect relationships, rivalries, and storylines, the developers said.
The digital version costs 24.99 pounds or 29.99 euros. A Feral Edition costs 34.99 pounds or 39.99 euros and adds eight Cat Creator elements, 12 wearable accessories, a cel-shaded character skin, four photo mode poses, and four photo mode effects. The developers did not release U.S. prices.
Physical copies are available today on Nintendo Switch 2 and PlayStation 5. The Xbox Series X version will be available Nov. 6, the companies say.
