SANDOKAN 3 - EPISODES

Episode 1— “MORUGAN”

Our adventure begins in the White Pagoda on Samarai Island: Kodo (an elderly thief) and a boy (who wears a turban and a ring with the emblem of a tiger) try to steal a ruby that is kept within the Pagoda. But as soon as the boy tries to pry the stone away from where it is set, the ceiling starts shaking and red flashes are emitted by the stone. Two guards immediately rush to the scene. They try to capture the two thieves who manage to escape. During the chase, a ray of light strikes the guards and they are turned into skeletons. The rays also scorch the vegetation surrounding the pagoda and then something incredible happens: some rays coming from the ruby reach the sleeping ghost of the evil Suyodhana (Sandokan’s mortal enemy) and rouse him from his sleep. But in order to survive on the earth he must find a body to host him and so he does. Meanwhile, inside the Kiltar royal palace, the sword with the hilt bearing the inscription of the tiger breaks up into three pieces, much to the surprise of Sandokan and Yanez, who are not the only ones to have noticed the phenomenon. Inside the Sukra monastery, in the Bihar region, the Grand Master of the blue monks tells his brethren that the ruby has been removed and that it is imperative to find it before Kalì’s followers do. Sandokan and Yanez go to an armourer in Madras to repair the sword, but it is too damaged. The armourer suggests removing the precious stone that is set in the hilt and nothing else that can be done. After removing the gem from the hilt, they realize that underneath there’s the inscription of a pagoda with a superimposed sword. It is none other than the White Pagoda on Samarai Island. As soon as they leave the shop, a monk dressed in blue approaches the armourer and with the excuse of asking him for a coin he whispers something into his ear. And by chance when the prahu is about to set sail, the same monk asks Sandokan for a lift. During their sail he offers some tea as an act of courtesy to his benefactors, who slip into a deep sleep. The monk is therefore free to lead them to Samarai Island. But Suyodhana, going from one body to the next, invades the monk’s body and possesses it. When Sandokan reawakens he tries to rouse Yanez, but to no avail. And so, by himself, he follows the monk’s footprints up to the pagoda. A gloomy kind of silence lingers over the place and then he sees a shadow in the darkness, which attacks him unexpectedly. Sandokan is quick to sidestep the blows. He responds, avoids another and during the squabble manages to remove the turban from his assailant’s head. A wonderful head of black hair billows out and the beautiful Morugan makes her appearance on the scene. Behind them the monk-Suyodhana gets rid of a skeleton and picks the ruby up from the ground. Kondo steps in at this point, but the monk-demon is so much stronger and the old man slumps down to the ground under his blows. Morugan furiously leaps upon him, but to no avail. And the same thing goes for Sandokan. With one last burst of energy, Kondo mortally wounds the monk in the back and some green smoke billows out of his mouth and forms the silhouette of Suyodhana. His luck changes since a bird flies into the pagoda in that moment. Since he hasn’t been successful in possessing Sandokan or Morugan, he possesses the bird and flies off with the ruby in his mouth. When they are left alone, Sandokan and Morugan approach Kondo who doesn’t have the chance to finish telling Morugan what he wanted to tell her for ages. As this happens in a cave, deep down in the belly of the earth, the bird deposits the ruby at the foot of a statue of the goddess Kalì and Suyodhana’s voice says: “Here is the heart of the sword, my Mistress.”

Episode 2— “THE BLUE MONKS”

Having successfully escaped from Suyodhana, Sandokan and Morugan reach the prahu where Yanez is expecting them. He is immediately impressed by the girl. Sandokan and Yanez decide to return to Madras in order to find the blue monks and discover something about the mystery of the ruby. Morugan, who does not disclose that she is a thief to him, wishes to join them and revenge Kondo. But after slipping Sandokan’s medallion from his neck, getting a hold of Yanez’s dagger and his dice, she sets sail with the prahu and leaves the two friends stranded on the ground. Luckily they manage to find another small vessel on the island.

At the same time, Suyodhana is given an incontrovertible order inside the cave of the goddess Kalì: he has to recover Nandaka, the invincible sword. The task is not an easy one since the blue monks are using two inscrutable people for the same reason (Sandokan and Morugan).

Morugan reaches Madras but cannot find any trace of the blue monks. In the meanwhile Sandokan and Yanez, who are still sailing, notice a thick bank of clouds quickly arriving, pushed forward by furious winds. The hurricane beats down directly on the Kiltar; Kammamuri and his tiger Randi pay the price.

Sandokan and Yanez finally reach Madras, find their prahu, but there’s no trace of Morugan. A sailor informs them that a hurricane has caused serious damage to the Kiltar. Without a moment’s hesitation, our heroes set sail immediately.

In the forest, Morugan meets a hermit monk, but he is none other than the ghost of Suyodhana. The monk makes her drink a potion and this causes her to plummet into a horrible nightmare. She is in his power and right when she is about to hurl herself down into a ravine, the hand of the abbot of the blue monks saves her and Suyodhana is forced to flee.

The situation is certainly not a rosy one for Sandokan: Kammamuri is unconscious and although Marianne is safe and sound, it was nonetheless a dreadful scare. In some sense Sandokan feels he is responsible for the boy and at the same time, much to everyone’s surprise, Morugan shows up at the royal palace of Kiltar; she gives the medallion back to Sandokan (who wants to have nothing to do with it) tells him the story of the blue monks, but he doesn’t believe her: why should he believe a thief? At this point the leader of the blue monks appears. He confirms Morugan’s version and reawakens Kammamuri from the sleep of death. Now it is time for the monks to tell the story of Nandaka, the invincible sword, to everyone. Vishnu had it forged in order to defeat Kalì. For many years the sword was kept by the blue monks, who later dismembered it into four parts and gave one part each to four sovereigns called the “custodians of the sword”: one of them was Sandokan’s father. It is once again endangered since through Suyodhana, the green demon, it might fall into the hands of Kalì’s followers. Only someone who is pure of heart has the capacity to reassemble the sword and Sandokan inherited this gift from his father. The monk asks him whether he wants to face this very difficult trial and Sandokan accepts the task!

Episode 3— “THE TSUNAMI”

Suyodhana is defeated, but the voice of the goddess soothes him and tells him that there will be other chances to defeat the enemies. But the most important thing is the sword.

On board the Kiltar, Sandokan is preparing for departure. The first place they will be visiting is Tavoy Island where Rajah Anambas has the invincible dagger in his custody. In fact, in order to reassemble the sword it is necessary to begin with the dagger; then he will be heading towards China where the magical knife is held. Then finally off to India where the longest sword is kept. Preparations are about to come to their conclusion and the atmosphere at the royal palace is not very agreeable. Yanez is furious and Marianne is saddened since she believes that Sandokan doesn’t deem her fit.

When the prahu reaches high sea Morugan emerges from the hold. Sandokan will have nothing of it, but he finally accepts since even Morugan is capable of warding off the demon.

With an air of determination, Marianne cuts her hair, slips a pistol into her belt and sets sail on the little prahu along with Yanez, Kammamuri and Randi – disobeying Sandokan’s orders.

It is certainly not one of the best navigations for Sandokan, considering Morugan’s personality. But they discover that they have some things in common such as their fear of flames and the fact that both their families perished in a fire. Later Sandokan decides to rest for a while and hands over the rudder to Morugan. It proves to be a hasty decision since they run aground on a bank. They don’t even have enough time to argue when a junk draws up alongside. It’s sailed by pirates who capture them as their prisoners. Then they await the arrival of Rajah Tavoy’s ship. After having run it aground, the pirates assail it. They are remarkable fighters and the barrels full of pearls being transported by the ship are their loot. Two more of the Rajah’s ships try to capture them, but they are put on the wrong track by some expert manoeuvres. So the pirates reach a luxuriant little island that serves as their den and here Sandokan and Morugan become acquainted with Bandar, their leader. Everything might go well enough, but one of the pirates realizes that Morugan is a girl and begins to bother her. Sandokan steps in and his life is saved thanks to Bandar’s benevolence. On her part, Morugan lets her hair down and approaches Bandar seductively. She stealthily slips his dagger from its sheathe, aims it at his throat and orders Sandokan to capture a junk. With Bandar as their hostage, they sail out into the open sea. The water is rather rough when suddenly a gigantic wave lifts them up into the air as if they were twigs.

The next morning, on a beach in Tavoy, Morugan and Bandar are captured by some of the Rajah’s guards. In the meantime Marianne, Yanez, Kammamuri and Randi catch sight of the city and a body adrift on the beach. It’s Sandokan and he’s alive.

Episode 4— “NARKODAM, THE KINGDOM OF TERROR”

On one of the beaches in Tavoy, Sandokan meets Kim. He reassures him about Morugan since the boy witnessed the Rajah’s guards leading them away in shackles. In order to avoid being arrested, Sandokan himself has to mingle with the fishermen of pearls, the greatest trade object in Tavoy and great business for Narkodam considering that the far-sighted Anambas is dead.

In the meanwhile Suyodhana has arrived at Narkodam’s palace, incarnated as a bird, and he spies on the Rajah and his stepmother Malyssa with whom he shares his throne. The two of them are discussing how to kill Bandar, their worst enemy. Malyssa wants to poison him with one of her deadly potions prepared with the help of Amari, her assistant; whereas Narkodam wants to feed him to the beasts.

All Suyodhana is interested in is the dagger and he has already glimpsed at Anambas’s sword hanging on the wall. There’s a ruby set in its hilt and underneath it surely holds the instructions to reach the hiding-place of the magical dagger. As time goes by, Morugan and Bandar realize that their time has come and that falling into Malyssa’s clutches is certainly not a pleasant affair.

Marianne and her comrades have been captured by the pirates. When these discover the reason for their journey, they want to execute them since they believe that Sandokan and Morugan sold Bandar to the Rajah. Marianne persuades them to change their mind and they come to an agreement... She will go to the palace in search of Sandokan and Bandar, leaving Yanez and Kammamuri behind as hostages. Randi will accompany her, considering Narkodam has a weak spot for ferocious animals.

Sandokan manages to slip into the palace, thanks to the help of some fishermen. There he discovers the place where Morugan and Bandar are kept prisoners, but for the time being it is impossible for him to set them free.

In the meanwhile Malyssa is in the tower, along with Amari, experimenting a new poison when the cries of a bird attract their attention. She opens the window to set it free, but a green flash of light illuminates the old woman’s gaze. Malyssa is under the spell of Suyodhana and she rushes to grab the sword and look for the inscription hidden under the robe. But she doesn’t find it and asks for Narkodam’s help. He tells her that his father had a dagger that he gave to Aruna for his thirteenth birthday. Aruna died by the hand of Malyssa herself and Amari buried him along with his dagger.

The following day Marianne is led to court and is about to be executed, but the Rajah saves her life since he has discovered that she has a tiger to sell him. In the palace dungeons, Sandokan finally manages to find a passage towards the prison. He frees Morugan and Bandar and together they head towards the hallway, which leads them to the beach. But unfortunately the mice have eaten the pearls that Sandokan had strewn about to find their way back. They come face-to-face with the guards, manage to defeat them and flee. But when Sandokan turns around, all he can see is Bandar. Morugan is probably still kept prisoner.

Malyssa manages to discover the tomb of Aruna, Anambas’s firstborn child, but it’s empty. Where are the dagger and Aruna?

Episode 5— “ ARUNA’S SECRET”

Aruna’s dagger lies at the bottom of the sea. Kim, Sandokan’s little friend, dives under the water and fishes it out.

Just a short distance away, Yanez and Kammamuri are waiting on board a junk for Marianne’s signal. But just when she is about to give them her signal, she is discovered by Narkodam who locks her up in one of the halls and puts his two leopards on guard outside. Meanwhile Bandar and Sandokan, who are looking for Morugan, are discovered and try to escape. But there’s no way out and luckily Bandar, at the last moment, manages to find a secret passage that leads them inside the cemetery where Anambas has been buried. Aruna’s tomb is open and empty. Anambas’s sword is lying on the ground. Bandar picks it up and he is overcome by emotions.

Malyssa scolds Narkodam because Aruna has never been buried there: where is the dagger? Narkodam’s reply is precise: “Amari was the one who buried him, ask her!”

Finally Morugan emerges from the dungeons, where she was in hiding, and she comes upon a stairway that leads directly to the tower. Malyssa aims a knife at Amari’s throat and forces her to drink the poison that she has prepared. It is also a truth serum. Sandokan and Bandar split up in order to go looking for Morugan. Walking through one of the hallways, Sandokan discovers Randi locked up in a cage inside Narkodam’s room. What is Randi doing here? It’s the first question that comes to his mind.

There’s no way out for Marianne, but she gets an idea when she looks at the skylight. Yanez and Kammamuri are also facing a predicament with the pirates awaiting to do away with them. But Yanez believes it’s too soon to die and so with a shrewd move he surprises the pirate who keeps him under surveillance and he dives into the water along with Kammamuri. Kim helps them reach a natural cave and with Randi’s help Sandokan finds the room where Marianne has been locked up. But he doesn’t know how to get around the men standing on guard. Right then the door begins to rattle as if someone were kicking it in. The guards open the door and get kicked in the face by Marianne, who is hanging from the skylight. The leopards cannot get a hold of her and so the soldiers are knocked down one by one. Sandokan thinks that Morugan is behind the door, so he is very surprised to see Marianne toppling in. Some more guards accompanied by Narkodam himself step up, but Sandokan turns the situation to his favour and manages to take Narkodam prisoner and the animals he used as weapons now turn against him. In the meanwhile, Morugan hears Amari’s confession as she states having saved Aruna by giving him some sedative. As soon as these words are uttered, Bandar suddenly appears. He is in effect Aruna, the son of Anambas: that is how he introduces himself to Malyssa. The demon she has within hisses and attacks him. The clash goes on until the very end, but the demon is too powerful and Bandar and Morugan (who has come to his help in the meanwhile) are succumbing. Malyssa is about to kill Morugan when Sandokan steps into the scene. He drags the monster beyond the tower window and out into the emptiness below. Morugan and Bandar fearfully run to see what has happened to their friend, but Sandokan is there hanging over emptiness. Bandar has his kingdom and the instructions to where the magic knife is hidden. It is brought by Kim who collected the dagger, at the bottom of the sea, which Anambas had given as a present to Aruna. Therefore the next leg of the journey is in Nepal and precisely at the Cathedral of Ice...

Episode 6— “THE EVIL HAZRA”

Our heroes moor at the Calcutta harbour, with a load of precious stones given to them by Aruna. They are enough to arouse the envy of everyone, according to Morugan. It is difficult to go unnoticed since a Bengala tiger is in their retinue. In fact Hazra, a short and stocky man with a mean appearance and who is accompanied by a real giant, is very interested in the tiger and in the boy who has tamed the beast like a kitten. Hazra’s mind is already calculating how much this couple might earn him if it were only in his hands. And that’s not all: Sandokan purchases five wonderful horses and some mules without any haggling and so some sinister figures notice him. They plan to steal from him during the night, but Hazra takes advantage of the bustle aroused by the theft and kidnaps both Kammamuri and Randi. Sandokan is late in realizing their disappearance and he has to patiently wait before he is able to find them. In the meanwhile Randi and Kammamuri are kept prisoners in a circus wagon that is headed towards a place inland. It’s going to a great fair where a trained bear, a fire eater, a snake charmer and naturally the terrible Bengala tiger perform their shows. A young man comes riding in behind the circus, without being noticed by anyone else. When Randi’s turn comes, the audience is horrified to see that there’s a boy in the cage and they sigh with relief when the animal approaches him simply to be stroked. Hazra captures the crowd’s attention by lifting a tent and unveiling a beautiful young girl. If someone wants her, he must pay two coins and win a wrestling match against the giant who accompanies the evil Hazra. The challengers fall one by one and the last one up is the young pursuer who is rather bruised and whose arm is in a sling. When he shows up, Kammamuri realizes that he and the beautiful young girl are not simply acquaintances. The young man is also beaten, but Sandokan in the meanwhile discovers who kidnapped Kammamuri and Randi. Night has fallen but the boy and the tiger are not sleeping, on the contrary they meet the young man who tells them his story... Sandokan is finally hot on their trail!!! Kammamuri’s plans for escape are unsuccessful and they end up escaping without the young girl. Sandokan reaches the town the circus went through and he comes upon Kammamuri with the young man and Randi, much to everyone’s joy.

In another town, a crowd is witnessing a match between the giant and one of the onlookers with Hazra acting as go-between. At the end of the match he slyly says: “Anyone else?” Sandokan emerges from the crowd. After putting at stake two bags of gold coins, he beats the giant and wins the girl in addition to Hazra’s money. At this point he summons someone else for a match: the young man shows up, the audience rumbles, but he knocks Sandokan to the ground with one blow. Hazra recognizes him and it dawns on him that he’s the victim of a trap and all he can do is take it out on the poor giant who is still lying unconscious on the ground.

Episode 7— “ IN NEPAL”

A large mouse with green flashes in its eyes is walking between the rocks of the Nepal Mountains. A falcon catches sight of it and swoops down, but instead of scattering off the mouse waits and a flash of green illuminates the snow all around. In the meanwhile, inside a village of the Nepalese highlands, Sandokan and his friends are organizing an expedition towards the Cathedral of Ice (the Annapurna). They hire a sherpa named Arsum as their guide (he’s also a falconer), some bearers and their leader named Azim. Randi remains in the valley, since he cannot bear the low temperatures on high mountain peaks, along with Kammamuri. An attitude full of envy and resentment towards those rich men immediately sets in and in fact Azim does not want to wait one second more before stealing from them. Arsum stops him: “They are looking for something very precious. It’s best to wait!” Their climb begins with the practical advice of the sherpa and everything, except for the odd run-of-the-mill obstacle, proceeds smoothly. The only jarring note is the falcon’s behaviour: it inexplicably attacks the yaks carrying their supplies near a cliff and they plummet down into emptiness. Only Yanez and Paco, the inseparable chameleon, witness the event. Yanez wants to eliminate the falcon, but the sherpa is against it since the animal is necessary at that altitude in order to find food. They finally reach the slopes of the Annapurna, along with the falcon – Suyodhana knows where to find the dagger. They set up camp on an upland plain, with a breathtaking landscape all around. The sherpa is worried about the Eagle’s Pass, which they have to cross in spring when it is in fact very dangerous to cross: the slabs of ice might break at any moment. It’s best to leave at daybreak. The falcon pays attention to this specification. At the crack of dawn the next morning, the sherpa is the first one to awaken. When he gets close to the precipice, the falcon attacks him and makes him plummet into the void. In the meantime, Asrum leaves his tent a second before the sherpa’s fall: the falcon unexpectedly swoops down upon him in a flash of green light. Sandokan and the others hear the clamour, come outside and find the falcon dead at Asrum’s feet. Now Suyodhana is the guide and Asrum, fully aware of what will happen in a little while, waits for the sun to be high in the sky before having the caravan make its way over the glacier at the Eagle’s Pass. It begins to crackle sinisterly and then opens up into a frightful crevasse. The bearers fly down into emptiness while Sandokan, Morugan, Yanez and Azim save themselves. The latter runs away from the rest, cursing one and all. They notice Asrum in the distance beyond the crevasse and he’s got a satisfied expression on his face. Unfortunately Marianne has been dragged down in the fall, but she manages to save herself since she ends up in an open niche twenty metres down. They have quite a hard time saving her, but they are successful in the end and once again they stand together.

Episode 8— “ THE CATHEDRAL OF ICE”

Asrum calmly begins to climb the Annapurna while our heroes are facing a snowstorm. Sandokan is carrying Marianne on his shoulders since she wounded her leg in the fall. As they make their way upwards, they desperately search for some kind of shelter so as not to die of frostbite when a refuge unexpectedly appears before their very eyes like a miracle. They go inside: the furnishings, chairs and blankets are all covered with a thick layer of dust and a man who seems to be made of wood is sitting with his legs crossed. Yanez and Paco approach him. “This man is long gone!” In that moment the statue opens one eye, causing Yanez and Paco to scream out in fright. The statue is actually a hermit who is searching for enlightenment and he is awake by now. Our heroes feed him with some dry food they find in the shelter, they help him shave his beard and wash up since after three years of meditation his body needs to be made presentable once again. The hermit, considering he is an expert of the area, offers to accompany them along the climb up the Annapurna. Marianne remains in the shelter since she cannot walk because of her wounded leg.

Upon discovering about Asrum, the hermit points a short-cut out to Sandokan and his men. They prepare an ambush, but the clash involves Sandokan, Yanez and Morugan since Asrum is possessed by Suyodhana’s demon and it is difficult, if not impossible, to oppose him. But Sandokan finally makes him fall down the mountain. But when they reach the top, the hermit states that it is not the Cathedral of Ice. When Sandokan asks him where it is, the hermit points it out to him. A long icy gorge leads towards an opening, while Asrum is approached by a pack of wolves. The leader of the pack attacks and he is immediately illuminated by a flash of green light. Battling against numerous perils, our heroes manage to overcome the gorge with the help of ropes and make their way inside the cathedral made up of hundreds of icy pillars. Where is the dagger to be found? A ray of light enters through a crevice on the cavern’s vault. It rotates very slowly, illuminating the stalactites one by one. Until the light finally shines on one of the stalactites within which the shadow of the dagger can be seen. Outside, amidst spectacular pinnacles of ice, the pack of wolves guided by their leader has arrived in the place where Sandokan stopped before coming to grips with the gorge.

All their attempts of getting hold of the dagger prove to be in vain. The hermit knows what should be done: they have to use fire. He concentrates on arousing his energy from the base of his coccyx, up along his backbone and then asks Sandokan to give him the palm of his hands. They stand still until the monks orders him to get the dagger and Sandokan obeys. He stretches out his hand and it penetrates the ice, allowing him to get a hold of the dagger. Once he removes it from the pillar of ice by the hilt, an incredible ray of light shines out and then dies down slowly. Then, beyond the darkness, the pillars begin to crumble. The band of reckless men begins to flee from certain death. But when they reach the point in which the shaft widens up, the wolves are awaiting and attack them. Sandokan manages to keep them at a distance with his magical dagger that sheds a ray of fire, but there are just too many wolves. They are steadily coming forward and right in the moment when a crevice opens up in the icy wall, our heroes manage to reach a narrow bridge over the abyss. Sandokan crosses it after everyone else and then chops it down. The bridge falls down into the abyss and the pack leader leaps out with a growl. This is a feat that would be impossible for any other animal, but he manages to reach the other side of the bridge, make his way inside the shaft and then disappears. In the meanwhile, our heroes run recklessly ahead as everything around them crumbles to the ground. They barely make it outside. They’ve done it, they’re safe and sound!

Ep. 9— “TURGUT”

Following such a strenuous trial, our heroes are resting inside the monk’s refuge. Marianne has recovered from her wound and she is now able to walk. Sandokan must go and fetch Randi and Kammamuri; Morugan offers to accompany him, but this time Marianne has her say: Morugan will stay with Yanez and she wants to go with Sandokan.

Marianne and Sandokan head towards the valley, while Yanez and Morugan go towards a mountain village where they shall be awaiting Sandokan’s return. The two of them immediately begin to quarrel over who has to take care of the dagger. Yanez wins the argument and Morugan leaves him alone. She walks around the village, freezing all the while, until she comes upon a tavern. There are quite a few horses tied to the post outside. She goes inside. There’s men making a racket and laughing out loud. When they catch sight of her, they fall silent. From the crowd comes a voice calling out to her: it’s Yanez. He is playing craps with a group of unreliable-looking people. He shoots his dice and wins. But the rogues add more money to the pile he has already won and each time Yanez wins, he drinks up a shot of very strong liquor. Morugan orders him to stop, but Yanez pays no heed. Morugan leaves him alone again. He goes on winning and drinking. He has practically stripped the rogues of their last cent, when he suddenly slumps down to the ground in a drunken state.

The bystanders look at each other and burst out laughing. In the meantime, Sandokan and Marianne reach the place where an ice bridge should be connecting the two valleys. The bridge has crumbled and they cannot walk ahead or go back to where they came from. They set up a makeshift shelter for the night and even burn their own sled in order to warm up a bit. It’s dawn and our two heroes have reached the end of their rope when an enormous avalanche fills up the crevice. The bridge is miraculously restored and they can take up their journey.

Morugan is anxious since Yanez hasn’t yet returned, so she goes looking for him at the tavern and finds him asleep on the ground, undressed of his clothes. She throws a bucket of water into his face, but it takes him a while to arouse from his sleep. He’s even been robbed of the dagger and they’ve got to find it before Sandokan’s return. The inn-keeper tells him that he’s been robbed by a group of bandits who live on the mountain.

Yanez e Morugan reach the robbers’ den. They hide and watch them as they quarrel over the dagger. The argument gets very heated and their leader is forced to step in: “Turgut!” Yanez and Morugan don’t understand what’s going on; they hear some noise coming from behind and immediately realize that they’ve been discovered. They are led before their leader who says: “Turgut!” and all the bandits reply in chorus: “Turgut!” Then he turns to the two prisoners and says to them: “Turgut or…”, as he makes an eloquent sign across his throat. “Turgut!”, agree Yanez e Morugan.

Sandokan and Marianne are certainly not going through better times. Their journey on foot has left them freezing and famished. They finally reach what they’ve been yearning for: a big crackling fire and the enticing smell of a roasting rabbit. Unfortunately, the three silhouettes that are sitting around the warm flames are three marauders armed to the hilt, whereas Marianne has only two bullets in her pistol. Sandokan removes the bullets from the pistol and lets the bandits capture them. He then draws up close to the fire and at the right moment he drops the two bullets inside; the ensuing explosion distracts them and with Marianne’s help he ties them down. Sandokan eats the rabbit with Marianne and then they take off on their horses.

In the meantime, the game begins to be somewhat dangerous back at the camp... in fact, Yanez and Morugan are wearing a necklace around their necks, with a tablet at the level of their hearts and they’re both holding a knife in their hands. The others are decked up in the same manner and at a signal they throw their knives towards the tablet upon their opponents’ chest. Only one of them is wounded in the leg and since Morugan hasn’t thrown her knife, a bandit looks at her menacingly: “Turgut!” Yanez shouts: “Hey, wait a minute...” and one moment later Morugan throws her knife and it hits bull’s eye. It’s a doubles game. The one who misses is eliminated and the one who wins will get the magical dagger as a prize. The problem is that the distance between the two partners gets greater and greater; Yanez and Morugan reach the finals against another couple. Their opponents go wrong, without wounding the other partner. Now it’s Yanez’s turn, but it seems as if he’s decided not to throw from a great distance. Their opponents are already looking forward to victory when Yanez suddenly throws his knife and hits the mark. Our heroes win the competition and Yanez retrieves the magical dagger from the hands of their leader. The bandits do not agree in the least, so Yanez and Morugan are forced to flee. But chance leads them to a wooden drinking trough: they turn it upside-down and slide off as quick as lightning. Finally, after overcoming a swollen river, Sandokan and Marianne reach the village where Randi and Kammamuri are waiting for them.

Yanez and Morugan reach the mountain village just in time to meet the others who immediately narrate their misadventures: luckily they had time to rest in the village! Yanez and Morugan exchange glances and say: “Turgut!”, all the while laughing merrily.

EPISODE 10— “THE IMMORTAL”

The wolf who Suyodhana took is dying – wounded and without any strength after having ended up beneath an avalanche of snow. When a condor flies above and swoops down upon the prey, a green flash of light assails it. The condor flies between the Bhutan mountains, on the boundary between Nepal and China. A group of people can be seen in the canyon, including: a local guide, Sandokan with the invincible dagger hanging from his belt and the others following on horseback. They notice a band of masked bandits along the river, who are robbing from some shepherds... the result is a slaughter and only a little boy the age of Kammamuri is saved thanks to our heroes. Sandokan even manages to tear the mask from the leader’s face, but he manages to escape.

The grateful boy leads them to Matan, the leader of the Buthai tribe, in Butha. He tells him how he was saved and about Sandokan’s bravery in tearing the mask from the leader’s face. Matan cries out in fear and the boy tells him that the bandits are demons. And that, considering the damages their village has undergone, they will soon be without any food and so our heroes decide to train the poor farmers. But the situation proves to be harder and more comical than what they were expecting. Marianne and Morugan discover the path that leads towards the bandits and in fact Sitha, their village, is not far away from Butha. This time the villagers lure the bandits into their trap. The bandits believe them to be defenceless and attack them in the certainty of plundering a plentiful amount of loot. The clash rages on with uncertain results until Urlag, the head of the bandits, the one who Sandokan ripped the mask from, challenges him to a duel with the dagger. During the fight, Urlag uses an extremely unfair move and sends the dagger flying from Sandokan’s hand and sinks it into his chest. Marianne and Morugan feel faint as Sandokan stands still for a moment. Then he rips it out with a shout. Not one drop of blood is shed from his body. “Sinander”, shout the Bhutanese and the Sithaians. The condor supervises the events from above as Sandokan is carried triumphantly before Singa, an old priest. After having heard the story about the dagger, he wants to try it out so he pierces his finger and some blood comes spurting out. “Uthà”, cries the crowd. Uthà means “he is the king”. The crowd once again celebrates Sandokan and Morugan by chance notices one of Singa’s priests as he disappears behind a column with the magical dagger. Kammamuri walks through the streets in search of the boy, but cannot find him. Neither can Matan and the odd thing is that even the other Bhutanese have disappeared. Urlag and Sandokan agree to disperse the abuse of power perpetrated by Singa and his priests since they are starving the population. But first they must find the Bhutanese and the magical dagger. Unfortunately the condor attacks Singa and Suyodhana’s demon inside him is ready to take over the dagger. Singa challenges Sandokan to demonstrate his immortality through a very harsh trial. Sandokan passes the test while Yanez and Morugan have to face the demon in order to get the dagger back. Together with the Bhutanese (freed by Kammamuri and Randi) and the Sithaians, Yanez and Morugan manage to lock Singa–Suyodhana up in a cage. Sandokan explains why they mustn’t allow him to escape and why they mustn’t get close to him. At this point, Sandokan and his troops can take up their journey towards China.

EPISODE 11— “JADE FOX”

Xiang Feng, the third keeper of the dagger, is dead. His two sons, Prince Zhao and Prince Sung, the youngest sons of the Emperor, stand alongside the body together with the eldest son, Prince Lao, and the Prime Minister Lobo Hai. At this point Lao reminds his two brothers of their father’s words when he said that it is simple to break one sole arrow, but it is impossible to break three of them together. He and his brothers will stand together forever and reign with fairness. Prime Minister Lobo Hai asks permission to leave and immediately a beautiful woman, who does not go unnoticed by Prince Zaho, appears amongst those present. The woman, whose name is Jade Fox, is immediately intercepted by Butho (the head of the guards) who asks her to follow him. Butho lets the woman into a room and Lobo Hai is there awaiting her. He wished her there because he hopes to reign over China. Jade Fox, a thief and murderess, has a plan: divide what has been united and create a void. But she has another proposal: she will work for him only if he gives her the three precious gems set on the tip of the three golden arrows that once belonged to Xiang Feng.

The coronation of China’e new emperor blocks Sandokan and his friends in a little village close to Beijing. Upon discovering that Xiang Feng is dead, Morugan proposes to dispatch Yanez to Prince Sung’s castle. She and Sandokan will go to speak to Prince Zhao, while Marianne and Kammamuri will head towards the new Emperor’s court in Beijing. In the meanwhile, Jade Fox arrives at the court of Jaho (the youngest brother). She asks for him, charms him until she finally becomes his favourite. Not completely satisfied with this, she steals a precious object away from him – which bears his coat of arms.

In Beijing, Marianne is unsuccessful in her attempt at entering the court. But considering the fact that the Emperor is looking for a wife, she mingles amongst the other suitors and pretends to be a princess. On the other hand, the evening is rather lively for Sandokan and Morugan who are arguing inside a tavern. In fact, after having banged the door shut in a fury, Morugan hears someone talking through the pipes of the quenched stove. These act as amplifiers and she can hear the voice of Jade Fox as she orders the assassination of the Emperor. Morugan manages to climb up to the room where the conversation took place and she engages in mortal combat with Jade Fox. Roused from his sleep, Sandokan steps in but Jade Fox manages to escape. All Sandokan can do now is run towards Beijing while Morugan follows Jade Fox’s tracks in hot pursuit. The situation is a somewhat complicated one and in fact Yanez watches the massacre of a village perpetrated by the Mongolians, who are none other but Butho’s imperial guards. Yanez manages to save a young girl from the grips of her persecutors and has the time to notice that the imperial uniform shines under the Mongolian’s clothes. Morugan reaches Zaho’s castle, but the guards keep her from entering. At the Emperor’s court, Marianne introduces herself as the Princess of Kiltar, with Randi and Kammamuri in her retinue. It is a sight to see. In the meanwhile Sandokan cannot find a way inside the castle, yet he knows that the murderer is already inside. He finally manages to knock out a couple of guards and quickly rushes to the Emperor, saving his life thanks to the magical dagger. But as soon as Prime Minister Lobo Hai bursts into the room, he orders his men to arrest Sandokan. Lao gives his counter-order, telling him that Sandokan has just saved his life. The arrested murderer confesses that he has been hired by Prince Zaho and Buto tells of the massacre committed by the Mongolians led by Sung, his brother. This is terrible news for Lao since the proof is against his beloved brothers. So, it is easy to succumb to the Prime Minister’s persistence to attack immediately. On an impulse, Sandokan is nominated military advisor. Marianne, Kammamuri and Randi will follow him in battle.

EPISODE 12— “THE CONSPIRACY”

The army led by Sandokan and by Butho heads towards Sung’s castle. The Emperor (with Marianne, Kammamuri and Randi in his retinue) is heading in turn towards Zaho’s castle.

Hanging from the bottom of the drawbridge to Zaho’s castle, Morugan is waiting for the right chance to jump over the wall. The time comes and she jumps in. But she is soon captured and led before Zaho, who has Jade Fox at his side. In that same moment a messenger arrives with the news that Imperial troops are marching towards the castle. Zaho’s surprise makes Morugan realize that the Prince knows nothing of the murder and it dawns on Jade Fox that Morugan is dangerous for her plans.

All of a sudden, a brawl breaks out between the two women and they are separated. Morugan plays her trump card: she accuses Jade Fox of having conspired to assassinate the Emperor - unknown to the Prince. Jade Fox accuses her of being a thief and when she is searched by the guards; they find a precious jewel belonging to the Prince that Jade Fox had slipped inside her pocket during their brawl. Thus Morugan is locked up in a prison cell.

Upon arriving at Sung’s castle, Yanez tells the Prince about what happened to the nearby village at the hands of imperial soldiers dressed as Mongolians. He cannot believe his brother Lao’s behaviour. Then the news comes that the imperial army is moving towards his castle. Sung names Yanez his deputy and orders him to take up a defensive position. Morugan has little chance of setting herself free and warning the Prince, whereas Jade Fox communicates with Lobo Hai with the help of a little owl. Sandokan and Butho simultaneously besiege Sung’s castle and the two military advisors confront each other with crafty blows. The first round is won by Yanez, but Sandokan discovers a door that offers access to the castle inside a secret well. Once inside the castle walls, he wants to negotiate their surrender and finds himself facing Yanez. They tell each other about the latest events and realize that Sung and Lao at least are the victims of a trap set up by whom? Perhaps by Zaho? In that instant Butho unleashes a murderous attack that the two men manage to thwart thanks to their talent and a stroke of luck. So Sandokan gets the idea of using the secret well to attack him from behind. They carry out the plan and are successful all along the line.

Butho manages to escape and Sung summons all his army and they head off towards Zaho’s castle in order to clear up the situation. But Butho arrives first and warns Lobo Hai, the conspirator. When it dawns on Lobo Hai that all is lost, he realizes that the only thing to do is tell the Emperor that Sandokan betrayed him and has joined Sung in his march towards them. Lao understands that having two armies up against him is not a small matter, so he lines up his troops against the ridge of a chasm in order to set up an ambush. Marianne, as she conceals their escape, sends Kammamuri and Randi off to warn Sandokan. In the meanwhile Lobo Hai orders Jade Fox to kill Zaho. But Morugan, who manages to free herself thanks to a trick, thwarts the assassination but is once again unsuccessful in getting her hands on Jade Fox. And that’s not all. Lobo Hai prepares a poisoned tea for Lao and is about to make him drink it when Yanez and Sandokan enter inside the gorge shouting that if they wish to kill two men alone – they should go ahead. Otherwise their wish is to speak to the Emperor. So the conspiracy is foiled and the three brothers reconcile and celebrate along with our heroes.

EPISODE 13— “THE THREE GOLDEN ARROWS”

Preparations to celebrate the victory are in full swing in Beijing. The head chef in the kitchens of the imperial palace is choosing his various scullery boys and assistants. Jade Fox is amongst them. When her turn comes, she is rejected since there are already enough women and he’s in need of strong arms. Jade Fox kills one of the selected men, she wears his clothes, takes up his position, looks out a window and watches as Butho is being escorted by the guards.

When the right time comes, Sandokan asks the three brothers whether they know something about a dagger or a sword that has a precious stone set in its hilt and that once belonged to their father. They know nothing about it, but their father had three arrows forged, each of which had a jewel lodged into its tip. Before the last guard has the chance to close the door behind Butho, Jade Fox kills him. She attacks the other guards, frees Butho and immediately asks him for a favour. In the meanwhile Sandokan, along with Lao, Sung and Zaho, are headed towards the room where the arrows are kept. But on the way there they come upon some dead guards and the arrows have disappeared from the room. The thief cannot be far away and one of the surviving guards, who is suffering from a terrible wound, says that Butho was set free by Jade Fox. So the hunt for the thief begins. Yanez, the three brothers and Sandokan meet on top of the towers of the imperial city. They wonder where the thief has gone to and then Sandokan notices that some men are throwing the contents of a large crate into a hole in the ground. In reply to Sandokan’s question, Lao replies that it’s only garbage that is being dumped into the underground river that flows outside the city walls... Now it’s all clear. Sandokan and Yanez jump into the hole and the current drags them out into the open. After a while even the others arrive on horseback, but there’s no sign of Jade Fox. They set up some barricades in the whole region surrounding Beijing. In the meanwhile, Jade Fox meets with a caravan of acrobats and uses her charm to get some help from a large fellow who is willing to hide her and provides her with some men’s clothing to wear. But at a road block Jade Fox is about to be discovered and if it weren’t for Butho’s help she would have been in big trouble. Now the two scoundrels dressed in military uniforms arrive in town. Jade Fox hands the arrows over to Butho so that he might melt them down and then she will be taking care of the precious stones.

When our heroes reach town, they surprise Jade Fox as she is selling the stones to a young princess. So begins an astonishing chase and in fact Sandokan, Yanez and Morugan run after Jade Fox while Marianne, Kammamuri and Rando are searching for Butho. Jade Fox initially shakes off her pursuers, but then Morugan catches up to her again and they engage in a spectacular duel that ends up with Jade Fox falling into emptiness. Marianne successfully stops the arrows from being melted down and neutralizes Butho.

Upon gaining the arrows back, they read the inscription engraved under the precious stones. It says that the next place to reach in the quest for the magical dagger is Siam.

EPISODE 14— “ BLACK DEVIL”

In Bhutan, Singa (the priest possessed by Suyodhana and locked up in a tower) has starved himself to death. The demon, set free through a crack in the wall, flies out and swoops down on a herd of horses. He then possesses the black stallion that is leading the herd. Our heroes are heading towards the south of China, in the direction of Siam. When, all of a sudden, the earth begins to shake: a herd of wild horses, led by a black stallion, is being chased by a group of horsemen with harsh expressions. Sandokan and the others observe the scene from the top of a hill and see the horsemen as they push the wild herd inside a gorge without any exit. But the black stallion, thanks to sudden jerks and rearing up into the air, frees himself and runs into their direction. He only comes to a halt a few feet away from them. Randi growls as they are all fascinated by the horse’s beauty. The horsemen chase after him determinately, but the stallion takes them off guards with its speed. The journey continues and a couple of hours later our heroes notice the horsemen as they return in a sad state. One of them has even been killed.

Kammamuri feels the horse chasing him, but every times he turns around the horse just disappears. One night, while the others are sleeping, Kammamuri senses the presence of the black stallion. He gets up and heads towards the horse; the black horse seems to strike him. Sandokan and Yanez get up in turn and there’s no sign of Kammamuri. Then he suddenly appears riding the Black Devil, as he has named his horse. But Randi just goes on growling, since he senses the evil that dwells inside the animal.

During their journey towards Siam, they come across a village where the horsemen arrive as well. As soon as they see the stallion, an argument immediately flares up since they want the animal back considering they were the ones who captured the herd. They also accuse our friends of witchcraft since they do not believe that Kammamuri could have ever broken in the horse without some sort of magic. The squabble would have probably gone on for a while if it weren’t for an elderly man who proposes to allow the horse and the boy participate in the Boz-Kashi. This is something similar to polo and rugby, in which the horsemen compete against each other for a goatskin ball full of sand and water. It’s a very violent game, but Sandokan’s team finally wins with Kammamuri in the lead on his Black Devil. As they draw closer to Siam, our heroes notice the change in landscape, with the jungle getting thicker and thicker – so much so that they are forced to leave their horses behind. They need a big elephant and they are trying to make a bargain with some locals. Kammamuri is unhappy and Sandokan knows the reason why. In fact, when the locals lead the Black Devil away, the animal breaks away from them and returns to Kammamuri. But instead of looking for a pat, the horse tries to bite him and if it weren’t for Randi he probably would have been successful in doing so. Now he’s up against Kammamuri again, and when he is about to beat down on him a gunshot explodes from Marianne’s pistol. So Black Devil charges Marianne, who shoots once more and the animal then slumps down to the ground. Kammamuri wants to say goodbye to the horse, but with one last outburst Black Devil tries to bite the child who immediately withdraws his hand. They sadly head off towards Siam while a fly is circling around the horse’s body. What better opportunity for the Suyodhana demon?

EPISODE 15— “NAGA, THE KING OF SNAKES”

Led by the Mahout who tends to the elephant, they reach the outskirts of Bangkok. Following the directions engraved on the three golden arrows, they reach the Val Po temple. It holds an enormous statue of Buddha, but they cannot find anything that refers to the dragon or to the sea of mud. Outside the temple, Morugan is bitten by a ruby snake. An incision is made to draw out the blood, but to no avail as she loses the use of her legs and has to lie down. The Mahout says that only Naga, the king of snakes, can save her. But they have to go to Bangkok. Yanez volunteers to stay behind to keep her company while the others leave.

In the chaotic city of Bangkok, they find Naga’s house but there’s no one there. Someone tells them that he should be in the square. The suggestion was right, but he is about to be put to death. Naga has been accused of smuggling forbidden substances, of having poisoned his creditors, of fraud, etc. The executioner’s blade is about to chop off his head when Sandokan, after having thrown the magical dagger, sees the weapon strike the sword; it is smashed to smithereens and then returns to him like a boomerang. Our friends manage to let Naga escape and return to the temple, but in the meantime Morugan’s health is failing. Naga says there’s not much that can be done and the only solution is to extract more poison from the glands of another ruby snake. But since it is such a rare serpent, it can only be found inside the city of snakes.

While Yanez watches over Morugan as the paralysis rises progressively in her body, our heroes head for the city of snakes. It is a place in the jungle inhabited by thousands of snakes. It’s not an easy task, but they finally manage to capture a ruby snake and rush off towards the temple. But Morugan’s conditions are desperate. Naga prepares a potion using crushed herbs and poison, while the rising paralysis is about to reach her heart. Naga administers the serum to her and, after a seemingly endless period of time, Morugan whispers something. She finally reawakens and remembers that Yanez confessed his love for her while he thought she was unconscious... In any case, Naga knows where the sea of mud can be found.

EPISODE 16— “THE SEA OF MUD”

Naga leads our heroes through an enormous swamp. He tells them that for the Cambodians a dragon is really a crocodile and there’s an enormous one living in the sea of mud. But no one has ever been able to tell the story of its existence since no one has ever returned. Walking with swamp water up to one’s calves is certainly not the most comfortable experience, but being swarmed by thousands of mosquitoes and insects is certainly one of the most dreadful experiences to bear. Yanez is aware of this as he slaps his shoulders, cheeks and arms in an attempt to drive away those bothersome insects. They finally come close to the sea of mud, which is an enormous stretch of water and quicksand. Naga says that they must now proceed in a boat. “Which boat?”, wonders Sandokan. They will find one in the nearby village that is inhabited by rather strange people.

Amongst the other insects flies a fly that sheds a green light. During their journey, our heroes also talk about Suyodhana and right when Morugan gets annoyed for their moans about the bloodsuckers and the various other insects, some swamp people appear on a pirogue. Sandokan and his companions are led towards their camp. Here they find the pirogue that will take them to the middle of the swamp and then they are fitted with all that’s necessary to battle the enormous crocodile that, according to legend, lives in the centre of the sea of mud. With a sense of terror and respect, the crocodile is considered a sort of deity. But once Sandokan, Yanez and Naga reach the middle of the sea of mud, they are attacked by an army of crocodiles. The magical dagger has a fundamental role in keeping them at bay, but at a certain point it falls into the sea of mud. All is lost. But, oddly enough, the crocodiles slowly swim away from the pirogue while a blue light springs up from the depths of the sea of mud. The dagger rises out of the water, lifted up by a mysterious force. The dagger is now on the surface, in the middle of the sea of mud. Sandokan approaches on his pirogue and is close within its reach when an enormous crocodile materializes and with a leap swallows the dagger and disappears. Sandokan lures the crocodile back and when it reappears with its jaws wide open, Yanez shoves a keg of gunpowder into its mouth. At the same time, Sandokan shoots at the keg. Everything goes flying up into the air: pieces of crocodile and the dagger that ends up hanging from the branches of a tree surrounded by quicksand. Sandokan and Yanez, assisted by Naga, stretch a rope between the tree and the pirogue and finally manage to get hold of the dagger... But Naga snatches the dagger from Yanez and cuts the rope that ties Sandokan to the pirogue – all the while laughing maliciously. A green flash of light makes them realize that the dagger is now in Suyodhana’s possession. Our heroes are sinking into the quicksand and have lost all hope when a rope is thrown in their direction. Morugan, Marianne and Kammamuri have reached them.

EPISODE 17— “ THE YELLOW MARTENS”

Naga–Suyodhana is escaping on a train towards Delhi. He’s got the magical dagger with him. But during the trip the train is assaulted by the Yellow Martens, a group of unmerciful outlaws. The passengers are duly robbed and Naga escapes towards the end of the train after having eliminated two of the martens. There is no blocking his way out, but suddenly he feels a blade pointing at his throat. It belongs to the Iron Hand, namely the White Rajah, alias James Brooke. After he escaped from prison along with Mati the giant, he joined the gang led by Tukamao, the leader of the Yellow Martens. He lost one of his hands during his flight and has replaced it with a bladed stump, which is now aimed at Naga’s throat. With one blow, Iron Hand rips open the cloth that is hiding the Dagger and it falls down to the ground. Naga furiously attacks him, but he is shot down dead. The British troops, led by Colonel Stone, arrive at a gallop. The Martens quickly disperse and Lieutenant Jones makes his way amidst the crowd to find out what’s going on. He finds Naga dying on the ground and a green light gushes forth. Just a few instants later, Lieutenant Jones is hot on the trail of the Martens. Meanwhile Sandokan, Marianne, Morugan, Yanez, Kammamuri and Randi try to reach Delhi and they come upon the train assaulted by the plunderers; they discover Naga’s lifeless body and thanks to a woman’s account of the event they are informed that the Dagger is in the hands of a monstrous man with a hand that has the shape of a knife... James Brooke reaches the den of the Martens and comes face-to-face with Tukamano who snatches the Dagger from his hands and, not completely satisfied, he slaps him across the face. At the British garrison Sandokan is informed about Tukamano and Iron Hand, his deputy, the man who stole the dagger, according to what Morugan tells Colonel Stone. Lieutenant Jones returns to the garrison just in time to hear the Colonel tell him that even Sandokan wishes to capture Tukamano since he’s got something that belongs to him. The smile on Jones’ face does not forebode anything good. In fact, that same night, Kammamuri gets suspicious about Colonel Stone’s nocturnal stroll and follows him. So he discovers that Stone is one of Tukamano’s accomplices. Not only does he propose a great raid of the train carrying a load of diamonds to Calcutta, but he warns him that a certain Sandokan will be on board – a Rajah from Borneo who’s looking for him. It would be a good idea to get rid of him and Iron Hand, obviously, tells him that he will personally take care of the matter. Kammamuri and Randi are about to make themselves scarce when Mati captures them and entrusts them to Iron Hand. The train loaded with diamonds, and escorted by Stone’s men, is about to leave: Sandokan, Yanez and Morugan are also part of the operation. Left on her own, Marianne notices that Kammamuri has disappeared and she makes her way inside the jungle to find him. Tukamano is in turn on the move to attack the train in the appointed place, while in the jungle Marianne is following the footprints of the horses and of the Martens since she saw them leave. She finds their den.

A tree is dropped onto the railway tracks and so the assault begins. Stone knocks down a soldier who is opposing the Martens. Sandokan notices and the Colonel tries to escape in the jungle, but Lieutenant Jones kills him. Jones and Sandokan, after having singled out Tukamano, throw themselves upon him. Sandokan is intercepted by Iron Hand and they get wrapped up in a duel. In the meanwhile, Jones is fighting against Tukamano, who has the Invincible Dagger. Sandokan defeats Iron Hand and Yanez defeats Mati, while Tukamano gets the better of Jones thanks to the Dagger and then he disappears into the jungle. On the other side, Marianne finally discovers where Kammamuri and Randi are kept prisoners but she cannot set them free since Tukamano has already returned.

EPISODE 18— “THE HUNT”

At the garrison Sandokan and Yanez discover that Marianne has set off to find Randi and Kammamuri in the jungle. But they are very suspicious that she has fallen into the hands of the Martens. Lieutenant Jones calms them down and tells them that he will have Iron Hand disclose the whereabouts of the den. In the meanwhile, Marianne takes the place of a girl who was captured during the raids of the Martens in the nearby villages, after having offered her freedom, so she hopes to set Randi and Kammamuri free. There’s even Jones-Suyodhana who tries to make his way to the den, so he barters the Dagger in exchange for Iron Hand’s freedom. The latter accepts willingly while at the den Marianne is anxious to get in touch with Randi and Kammamuri. The opportunity arises with a bucket of meat that has to be served to Randi, which another girl refuses to do out of fright. Meanwhile at the garrison Jones-Suyodhana kills the two soldiers guarding the diamonds. He steals them and hides some of them in Sandokan and Yanez’s sleeping quarters, with the aim of locking them up in jail for the time that is necessary. His plan is successful: Sandokan and Yanez now lie in prison and meanwhile in the den Randi notices a girl coming with a bucket and he immediately recognizes her – he knows that it’s Marianne; after a while even the disbelieving Kammamuri recognizes her. They’ll find a way out, Marianne reassures them. But when she joins the other girls, Tukamano notices her and is dazzled by her beauty.

Lieutenant Jones leaves with Mati and Iron Hand in shackles and other soldiers. While Morugan is inside her cell, she puts some pieces together and realizes that Jones is Suyodhana in disguise. Marianne is led into the den by Tukamano and she pretends to be compliant in order to avoid any risks. The squad of soldiers arrives in the den that is so well-concealed as to be found only by those who know precisely of its whereabouts. But Jones is not sure, so he sends a soldier off in reconnaissance and he confirms that it’s the right place. And in any case, Jones-Suyodhana orders the two soldiers standing guard to Mati and Iron Hand to kill them as soon as the attack begins. And without any objections, adds Suyodhana’s ghost. At the garrison Sandokan, Yanez and Morugan manage to set themselves free and they are hot on their trail. The attack to the den saves Marianne from Tukamano’s advances. He is forced to run and defend himself but when he sees that all is lost, he runs away dragging Marianne down a shaft with him. In the jungle, the soldiers guarding Brooke and Mati are killed by Iron Hand. As much as Jones-Suyodhana does his best, he cannot find Tukamano and the magical Dagger. The latter sets fire to the rope ladder that helped him down into a well until he finally reaches a boat moored at the secret entrance to an underwater river. The rope ladder burns until it even sets fire to Tukamano’s quarters. Jones-Suyodhana jumps into the flames to get his hands on the dagger. But Sandokan, Yanez and Morugan have reached the martens’ den and jump upon the demon. A harsh battle ensures, but finally Sandokan gets the upper hand and hurdles him down into the well. As soon as Tukamano’s boat leaves the cave, Marianne quickly slips the dagger from his belt and throws it into the water. Tukamano orders his faithful attendants to catch her. They are stopped by some gunshot. It’s Iron Hand who wants to get his revenge for the slap he was served and so he and Mati leave with Tukamano’s boat full of silver and gold objects that the Martens leader had brought along during his escape. In order to find out what happened to Jones-Suyodhana, Sandokan lowers himself down into the well with a rope. But instead of finding Suyodhana, who has left behind traces of blood, he discovers Marianne and the Dagger. Suyodhana is alive and kicking and is watching our heroes through the eyes of a fish...

EPISODE 19— “KRISHNAYARA”

Sandokan, Marianne, Morugan, Yanez, Kammamuri and Randi are in Delhi to find the missing piece of the magical sword, which is also the last one, left in the custody of Prince Krishnayara. Within the enormous city of Delhi, our heroes decide to break up into groups of two in order to find Prince Krishnayara as soon as possible. While all Marianne and Morugan find are thugs who are only willing to kill them, likewise Kammamuri and Randi, Sandokan and Yanez with the help of an old travelling salesman (who sells them an ancient map) find the palace of Krishnayara that is completely in ruins. They walk through various rooms until they finally climb onto the roof from which the entire view of the city can be enjoyed. They are suddenly attacked by the thugs. The harsh battle has Sandokan and Yanez running away on the roof-tops and then climbing down into an alley where there are more thugs in waiting. If it weren’t for the elderly travelling salesman, Sandokan and Yanez would have had a hard time getting rid of the thugs. Again with the elderly man’s help they come upon some thugs in procession, in the outskirts of Delhi. Sandokan and Yanez wear some black cloaks and the medallions that Marianne and Kammamuri managed to snatch from the thugs during the previous clashes. Marianne and Morugan join Sandokan and Yanez in the procession that passes through a dark shaft up to a room that contains an enormous statue of the goddess Kalì. And so beings the ceremony that calls for human sacrifice. Babar, a young man, is led up to the altar and the followers of the goddess seem deaf to the victim’s desperate cries. The priest is holding a kriss with a black gem set in the hilt. Sandokan understands that he must possess it in order to get the fourth and last piece of the sword. In that same instant he realizes that Morugan is no longer at his side. When he instinctively lifts his gaze, he sees that the girl has climbed atop the head of the statue representing the goddess Kalì. Her intentions dawn on him, so he warns Marianne and Yanez. As the priest is about to kill poor Babar, Sandokan throws the magical Dagger that strikes the priest’s hand and sends the knife flying. Just one moment later, Morugan jumps down and makes Babar roll off the altar while she grabs hold of the kriss at the same time. Their escape seems impossible considering all the thugs they have to face, but Babar leads them towards the exit. Everything seems to have been solved, but there are more thugs on guard outside the entrance to the underground temple and they come before our heroes. It’s a harsh battle and if it weren’t, again, for the elderly travelling salesman (who is none other than the Blue Monk), they would have had a hard time getting rid of the thugs. When they finally manage to pry the stone from the hilt, they discover that the image underneath it is the head of a cobra. The Monk immediately understands that in order to recover the final piece and reassemble the sword, Sandokan has to go to Narayama – the kingdom of the dead. Ancient texts narrate that the entrance to Narayama is in the middle of the jungle in Burma. It would be impossible to reach by land: they have to fly. Babar has a solution: they will fly over the jungle on board the hot air balloon he purchased from an Englishman. But whatever happened to Suyodhana? He was incarnated in a fish and now he is also travelling towards the jungle in Burma after having possessed an elephant...

EPISODE 20— “ARCHIBALD LESTER”

A herd of babirusa is drinking at a waterhole when the trumpeting of an elephant sends them running off in terror. Now he’s the one drinking at the waterhole when suddenly he hears the low roar of a panther behind him. He is attacked by the animal and a flash of green light invests the beast.

Their initial impact with the Burmese jungle is certainly not one of the best experiences: in the first place, the hot air balloon loses altitude and hastily unloads our heroes over some tree tops. Babar seems to have disappeared and Sandokan is attacked by the panther possessed by Suyodhana. The beast’s strength is doubled by the presence of the demon and the only reason Sandokan saves his life, after having lost the dagger in the river, is because Randi steps in and fights with the panther. The two wild animals also fall into the river and they continue fighting as the current drags them along. But Randi successfully gets a grip on something and Kammamuri helps him out. Deep in his heart, Sandokan is convinced that the dagger has been lost for good. But Morugan, who dives in at the right moment, manages to fish it out. Our friends have yet to get over their bad adventure when an explosion makes the ground beneath them quiver. It’s dynamite and smoke billowing out of the thick jungle vegetation captures their attention. So they become acquainted with Archibald Lester, a friendly and quite eccentric British archaeologist who is in turn looking for the door that leads to Narayama. Sandokan feels he can trust the fellow and shows him the reproduction on parchment paper of the cobra head. Archibald doesn’t know what that picture is referring to but Siman, the excavation leader, knows where the ruins of a small ancient temple called the Temple of the Cobra stand. The panther possessed by Suyodhana is about to die and, after having dragged itself into the thick of the vegetation, a black cobra appears and sinks its teeth into the panther. Again, the green light shines...

During the journey that leads to the Temple of the Cobra, in addition to various incidents that do not forebode anything good, Sandokan is attacked by a mysterious assailant who wants to take the magical dagger. In pursuit, Yanez clashes into Archibald, but Sandokan frees him from blame and they concentrate their suspicions on Siman whose hand is visibly wounded the day following the attack. They finally get in sight of the temple, where the climb is rather steep and the Indian labourers state that they’re too exhausted to face it. So our heroes face the climb, along with Archibald Lester. Once they reach the top, all they find is a stone building partially in ruins and a niche containing the statue of a black cobra that is so perfect as to seem alive. In that moment, the cobra slithers out its forked tongue and Kammamuri jumps back in fright. The green light shining in the cobra’s eyes makes it dawn on Sandokan that they’re facing Suyodhana. Using his magical dagger, Sandokan neutralizes the cobra’s attacks. But soon they are surrounded by Siman and the other labourers, who prove to be none other than thugs. Sandokan is already praying for some divine intervention when a rope slides down from above. It’s Babar. He successfully got the hot air balloon flying again and manages to save them. The last one to climb up the rope is Sandokan, and the only way for him to get rid of the cobra-Suyodhana who is clinging on the rope is to cut it. From above our heroes see the head of a cobra that outlines a path in red earth. They’ve found the door that leads to the kingdom of the dead!

EPISODE 21— “NARAYAMA”

Babar’s hot air balloon drops our heroes in a manner that is harsher than what they expected. So much so that Archibald Lester sprains his ankle. After singling out the itinerary to take in order to reach the entrance to Narayama, it is an easy task for them to find it. In fact, the sacred door is the cobra’s eye that opens up to a bottomless chasm. There is an inscription engraved on the sacred door that Lester knows how to decipher skilfully: it’s some warnings for the living who wish to visit the kingdom of the dead. First and foremost, they mustn’t leave the main road since all the other roads conceal dangers and illusions. Staying for longer than 24 hours in the land of the dead is not suggested since it would be impossible to leave thereafter. Moreover, the living must pretend to be dead and hide their emotions and their feelings. Since everything wastes away in the land of the dead, the only foodstuff available are some special berries. The exit door is different from the entrance door. The last warning suggests bringing along some sweets in order to win the favours of the inhabitants of Narayama. Except for Babar, Randi and Archibald Lester (considering the state of his ankle, he unwillingly has to abstain), the others lower themselves down into the deep well with the help of the rope attached to the hot air balloon. Once they reach the antechamber to Narayama, they realize that they’re standing in a real underground city – yet a totally uninhabited one. They keep their course on the principal path until they finally reach a temple that contains a tub full of liquid that is as black as ink. All along its rim stand some bowls full of brown berries, more bowls full of sweets and an hourglass. They take the berries, the sweets and the hourglass, which will come in handy to keep track of time. Then they dive into the tub full of ink-black water. As soon as they touch the liquid, our heroes (in a dreamlike state) return to the moment of their birth, then return to their present state and suddenly find themselves waiting in a queue at the Narayama entrance, along with other people. Yanez tries to put the warnings engraved on the sacred door into practice by behaving in the opposite way and realizes that they say the truth since no one laughs at his quips. Their journey continues peacefully until everyone begins to act as ghosts, but when Yanez is discovered he has to run away and leave the main road. As announced by the instructions, the secondary roads are dangerous and full of illusions. Therefore our heroes find themselves inside a labyrinth made of plants. The only way out is by crossing the Door of Fear and so each and every one of them has to experience his/her own personal nightmare. Sandokan once again experiences the attack of the Dayachi mercenaries at Kiltar Palace. He has to save a little girl from the flames, but a beam crumbles down to the ground and keeps him from saving her life. Even Morugan has Sandokan’s same fear of fire. She finds herself in a great hall-room surrounded by flames while she desperately calls out for someone who has an Indian nickname: Sagi. While Marianne dreams that Sandokan is killed by James Brooke. Yanez dreams of winning Morugan over, then realizing that she’s Suyodhana who is trying to possess him. Kammamuri dreams of losing his friends. Luckily, like all nightmares, these come to an end and our heroes find themselves all together once again.

EPISODE 22— “ THE WANDERING SOULS OF THE NIGHT”

Sandokan, Marianne, Morugan, Yanez and Kammamuri are again walking down the main road when, upon coming to a ghost-like landscape, they are pervaded by a very strong smell of sulphur. They are still wondering where that smell is coming from when a kind of gnome goes running into a hollow tree trunk. Immediately some horrible men painted in white, with necklaces made of skulls hanging from their necks, surround them. They engage in a furious battle and nothing seems capable of stopping those beings as they go on fighting even when mortally wounded. Then a bolt of lightning strikes the tree and it is set on fire. Only then do they run away and our heroes have to tend to the petrified gnome who is still hiding inside the hollow trunk. Kammamuri takes it upon himself to pull the gnome out by offering him some sweets: Butha, this is the name of that little being, eats them greedily. He then leads them to Buthasvara, the leader of the Butha and father of little Butha himself. Buthasvara explains to them that those men painted in white were the Pretha, who live in graves during the day and then go out at night and feed on the Butha, their favourite food. In addition, their leader named Yama owns an invincible sword that he stole from a living being who walked into Narayama a long time ago. Sandokan realizes that it’s the last piece needed to reassemble the invincible sword: all Buthasvara has to do is lead them to the Pretha. But he refuses since the expedition would be too dangerous. In any case, the Pretha smell living beings from a great distance and therefore Morugan has a wonderful idea... After diving into the waters of a putrescent pond, our heroes make their way inside the Pretha territory. The Pretha cannot catch the scent of their presence. Morugan’s plan is working and so they roam around the uncovered tombs until they reach a horrifying statue of the goddess Kalì at whose feet there’s the skeleton of a man still wearing his royal attire: it’s Krishnayara. A storm immediately bursts out and our heroes are cleansed from the smell by the pounding rain. The Pretha immediately surround them and Yama attacks Sandokan, saying that in a while they will all end up like that stupid human being who wandered all the way there. The other Pretha don’t attack, but line up in a circle to watch the fight. Following a series of attacks and counter-attacks, Sandokan strikes the sword with his magical dagger and it is smashed into smithereens. Yama stops in surprise and Sandokan wonders where the perfect sword actually is... then it suddenly dawns on him and he throws the dagger, which drives into the stone heart of the statue representing the goddess. Just one moment later, the statue sets fire to everything that surrounds it and the terrified Pretha run away. The fire slowly dies down and everything becomes as it was before, but in the darkness the perfect sword is suspended in the air and gives off a shining light. Sandokan grabs it and a myriad of rays are emitted by its blade... Finally the perfect sword has been reassembled.

EPISODE 23— “THE TIME TRAP”

A great bat grazes against the hot air balloon and swoops down towards the well. Archibald Lester, stupefied, watches it disappear. With a flash of green light, the bat enters inside the temple and dives into the black tub. All its transformations follow each other one by one: cobra, panther, Lieutenant Jones, Naga up to the green demon with the appearance of Suyodhana. The high priest of Kalì invokes his Goddess and she readily replies that he must recover the perfect sword now that it has been reassembled. Suyodhana is certain that he will be successful in doing so; that’s his place. Everything is possible there: enticing nymphs, flowers that turn into three metre long snakes, a warrior in armour who rides up against them. But Sandokan has to face the most well-contrived plan, which involves Kammamuri dragged underground by horrendous tentacles. Sandokan saves him, but the fake Kammamuri then turns into an octopus that attacks him. Sandokan manages to strike it right in the middle and the ground around them opens up and sucks them into the bowels of the earth. They roll down until they reach a cavern. They set off to find the exit and Morugan notices a butterfly, then another and finally a whole flock of them. They decide to follow them and finally see a light. It must be the exit and so they approach it, but the stalactites and the stalagmites multiply before them and imprison them. Only Sandokan manages to get through and he’s a free man. But his friends are lost forever. His grief is boundless and he begins to wander about for days, then for months, without finding any peace. Finally, inside a tavern where Sandokan is seated at a table that is set aside, comes an old man who says he’s from Narayama: he can take Sandokan to his friends. He follows the old man, who takes him in front of a little stone house and tells him that he will find the answers to his torment inside the place. Once inside, he is sent flying down. But his fall is muffled by an outstretched spider web. He lands on a kind of disc and behind him appears a creature wearing a black tunic and very long white hair: it’s the queen of the universe – death itself. After laughing at his pain, she asks Sandokan if he’s willing to slash four threads that represent four lives in order to save his friends. Sandokan withdraws, he simply cannot. So at this point death asks him for the perfect sword. Sandokan is about to hand it over when he sees Suyodhana, the green demon, reflected in the face of death. Sandokan withdraws the sword and beats down upon the ghastly figure with all his might. It disappears and a stone wall separating him from his friends appears and it opens up in the same spot where he strikes the demon. His friends are set free. The time available to them for their stay in Narayama is about to run out: they manage to breathlessly run to safety and meet in the place where the hot air balloon was located when they entered. They hug Archibald and Babar and Randi gives them a hearty welcome. But then some green smoke rises from a crack in the rock and envelops Yanez, without anyone taking notice of it.

EPISODE 24— “KONDO’S SECRET”

Babar’s hot air balloon is carrying our heroes towards Kiltar. Since Yanez is prey to Suyodhana, Paco the chameleon cannot accept him and Randi growls at him. Sandokan is worried about his behaviour, but Yanez excuses himself saying that the experience he had in the land of the dead has deeply changed him. Above Singapore, Yanez convinces Sandokan to land. Sandokan’s task is to find the stolen ruby brought by Suyodhana inside the temple of the goddess Kalì in order to transform the perfect sword into the invincible sword.

In Singapore our friends are instantly noticed by a suspicious character who then brings the news to Iron Hand. Since we last met him, Iron Hand has set up a dangerous band of outlaws. In the meantime (after greeting Babar and Archibald) Sandokan, Yanez, Marianne, Morugan, Kammamuri and Randi take up accommodation in an inn. That same night Yanez wakes Sandokan up telling him where the purloined ruby, also known as heart of knowledge, can be found thanks to a dream he’s just had. He urges his fraternal friend to go along with him and Sandokan, after observing Yanez at length, finally accepts. Since her room is adjacent, Morugan hears the whole thing and decides to follow them. But there’s an outsider: Iron Hand wants to set up an ambush for his mortal enemy. But right at the moment in which he is about to burst into the inn, Iron Hand sees Sandokan and Yanez leaving the place, followed by Morugan. Iron Hand captures the girl by surprise, but he is unsuccessful with Marianne and Kammamuri thanks to Randi’s interference. Sandokan goes on following Yanez-Suyodhana all the way to the harbour and inside a small boat that ends up on a dark island. Continuing in his pursuit of Yanez, they reach a cave. The time has come: Sandokan will soon be facing one of the hardest trials in his life. They make their way inside the cave and then come upon the statue of Kalì with the ruby at her feet. Yanez bends down and embeds it inside the groove of his sword’s hilt. They are both hanging onto the sword, they both want it and so the battle begins. Their blows are in rapid succession and the demon gives Yanez a kind of strength that Sandokan cannot stand up to. With superhuman strength, Sandokan tries to tear the sword from his enemy’s hands and the two of them roll about on the ground. But as they fall down, the sword plummets into the emptiness below. Yanez jumps in after it, but Sandokan grabs him by the ankle at the last moment and pulls him up. Yanez looks at him mockingly: he knows Sandokan will never be able to beat him. Sandokan beats down on his hand with a stone, causing him to drop the sword he’s holding... but unfortunately this is only a stage in the battle. Sandokan is cornered. In that instant a ray of light penetrates inside the cave. Our hero intuitively has the ray of light beat down upon the ruby and a series of murderous rays strike the vault and it crumbles to pieces. Yanez simultaneously falls into the emptiness. When he comes to, Sandokan recovers his friend’s body: luckily his heart is still beating. He loads Yanez on his shoulders and returns to the inn. He discovers that Morugan has disappeared and Yanez’s conditions are very serious.

EPISODE 25— “KONDO’S SECRET”

A Chinese doctor lifts Yanez into a sitting position on the bed. Sandokan anxiously asks him whether Yanez will regain his senses. The doctor’s answer is not very reassuring since although Yanez does not have any particular wounds, his spirit seems to have lost the will to live. Morugan is locked up in a dungeon that serves as a prison. She tries to take Mati by surprise, but the giant is very careful and manages to stop her. Brooke arrives and orders her to remove the ring with the tiger depicted upon it. Morugan refuses since it’s the only thing that remains of Kondo. Brooke laughs: Kondo! He was only an assassin, a Dayachi mercenary recruited along with others to capture Kiltar. Morugan becomes furious and she would certainly serve him a blow if it weren’t for the scoundrels in the service of Iron Hand. Memories suddenly come back to mind and Morugan once again sees the fire, an Indian woman being wounded to death, the ring with the emblem of the tiger slipping from her finger, a man’s hand as it picks the ring up, then he reaches the child, gathers her up into his arms... That man is Kondo. Morugan faints.

James Brooke dispatches a little boy off to Sandokan with the ring and a note that invites him to go to the harbour and to go there alone if he wishes to see her alive. Once he reaches the harbour, Sandokan sees a woman wearing a shawl on her head that resembles Morugan. James Brooke orders him to hand over his sword. Sandokan drives it into the pier and walks away as Morugan goes towards him. In the same instant in which Iron Hand picks up the sword, Morugan reaches Sandokan – but it’s not her! It’s one of the bandits who tries to kill him. Sandokan is not taken off guard so he throws the bandit down to the ground and then calls out to the sword: Nandaka! Brooke has to let go of it because the hilt has turned into white-hot metal. Then the incredible happens: the sword stops gun shots, rifle shots, it splits in two whatever comes in their direction and when it moves it leaves a band of light behind. The gang is put in flight and all that Brooke can do is run away. When Sandokan reaches the wharf, the ship has already been engulfed by the darkness of the night. Inside Kiltar Palace, the situation is unaltered with Yanez still unconscious and Morugan in the grips of the bandits. What has the sword added to his knowledge? If he should listen to the Blue Monk, the reassembly of the sword would mean finding Enlightenment, instead... In that moment he experiences the fire that occurred during his infancy: he was running around a room calling out to Chandra, a three-year old girl hidden under a table. And then the fiery beam that fell between them. Upon emerging from his memories, it dawns on Sandokan that he once had a sister whom he did not save from the fire. And, just like her, he didn’t save Yanez as well. A tear escapes Sandokan’s eye and lands on the ruby that is set on the sword’s hilt. A red flash is produced. All night long, Sandokan watches over his friend. Then at dawn, when he is asleep, he hears a voice call out his name: it’s Yanez. He has woken him up! Brooke has a plan: set fire to the gunpowder inside the Kiltar Palace. Luck would have it that Morugan manages to set herself free before Brooke sets fire to the powder magazine; in any case, she is too late to give the alarm. Finding himself at a loss, Brooke shoots at a keg and all hell breaks loose. Morugan is inside the burning state-room and she has a wounded leg. Sandokan sees her, but the fire paralyzes him to the spot, then he realizes... and shouts: “Chandra!”. In reply, she cries out in reply: “Sagi!” They fall into each other’s arms, but the situation is desperate. But a scene from the past comes to Morugan’s mind. She slips the ring into a wall in front of them, where there’s an inlay in the mosaic, and they find themselves outside. Fire has overcome everything in the Palace, but they are safe and sound and have finally found each other.

EPISODE 26— “THE INVINCIBLE SWORD”

The leader of the Blue Monks, upon learning that the invincible sword has been reassembled, summons a young monk. He asks him to dispatch a message he has personally written, through a travelling pigeon, to Kiltar. The following day he will personally set off to join Sandokan. He goes to his room, sadly observes the jug that stands on his night table, closes the window since he’s heard some rustling. A big bird enters, illuminating the night with green. The letter punctually reaches Kiltar, with its unquestionable instructions. In fact, when the monk arrives he finds Yanez waiting for him and not Sandokan, who is waiting within the Kiltar mines. He will lead him down there and then Sandokan will hand over the invincible sword. They head off and at a certain point of their journey Yanez says that his task has been completed. The Monk-Suyodhana realizes that Yanez is onto him and so he attacks him. Morugan, who has been trailing them, jumps into the fight but they are defeated and locked up in a pit close to the mines. During that desperate situation, Morugan realizes that she’s in love with Yanez who she initially turned down. In the meantime, Sandokan and the Monk meet at the entrance of the mines. The latter begins to suffer from shooting pains in his belly. Sandokan leads him on, talking all the while, to greater depths in the ground, towards a square cave, without any exit, where the sword is hanging on a wall. Another stabbing pain makes the Monk bend over and Sandokan informs him that he would poison himself if evil had taken possession of him. Suyodhana furiously attacks Sandokan, all the while screaming. The sword is hanging on the square cave’s wall: Sandokan grabs it and a harsh battle ensures since Suyodhana attacks Sandokan with the power of a hurricane in his attempt to possess him. The sword is smashed to pieces that are pulverized and then disappear. But Sandokan endures it all while the demon desperately tries to be incarnated into something. But there’s nothing there, so his green light seems to be quenched and then a horrible cry comes out of the mines: the demon is dead. In the meanwhile Morugan and Yanez have freed themselves and the three of them embrace when they come upon Sandokan. Even the Royal Palace is reconstructed, but there’s a moral to the story: “The sword represents the journey that makes us become acquainted with ourselves and allows us to discover our inner strength. This is our one and only weapon.”
