The
Stepmother
After his wife dies, Cinderella’s father remarries so that his only
daughter will have a mother. The stepmother is an elegant woman, yet has
a cruel streak that knows no limits. She sees Cinderella as an obstacle
in her plans for the future, and will stop at noting to humiliate her and
make her life unbearable, as her whole existence is centered on herself
and her two daughters. In fact, she will do anything to marry off
one of them (no matter which) to Prince Charles, the city’s most eligible
bachelor.

Catherine
She
is the stepmother’s oldest daughter, a vain, pretty girl with common manners
and no class. She is selfish, mean, and delights in bullying Cinderella
by making her daily domestic chores as difficult as possible.
|
|
Janet
She
is the youngest of Cinderella’s stepsisters, and the more sensitive of the
two, as our story will reveal on several occasions. Goaded by her mother,
she too will vie for the hand of Charles, the young Prince.

The
Fairy Godmother
Before
she dies, Cinderella’s mother entrusts her daughter to a godmother who is,
in reality, a good fairy. Like all good fairies, she has a magic wand that
she uses to help those who need her powers. Sometimes she gets things wrong,
and is a little late to the rescue, but is always ready to help Cinderella.
As such, she keeps the promise she'd made to the girl’s mother.

Cinderella
Cinderella
has beautiful, delicate features. She is sensitive, bursting with life,
rather intelligent, and full of kindness and initiative. Her stepmother
is so irritated by these qualities that she tries to make people believe
that the girl is not really her step daughter.

Charles
Charles
has no time for boring history lessons or studying law, and instead, engages
in swordplay and escapades (such as slipping out into the city disguised
as Alex, his faithful fencing partner). During one of his outings
from the Emerald Castle he meets Cinderella, and the two become friends.
However, Cinderella doesn’t know that Charles is a prince, and he has no
intention of telling her, convinced that she would never believe him.

|
Alex
Charles
relies heavily on Alex, who is always there when he needs help; in fact,
Alex will even help him regain possession of the Castle when it falls
into the hands of Zaral, the traitor. Alex will also fight at Charles’
side against the men of Blade, the bandit. Alex has the same age
and build as Charles; in fact, they are so alike that he takes the Prince’s
place at a party hoted by Cinderella.
|
Zaral
Zaral is one of those that does something exclusively for his exclusive
gain. Although he is the King’s personal advisor, he plots behind his back
to depose him and usurp his power. In the end, he is unmasked by Charles,
at whose hand he will suffer a humiliating defeat in a swordfight.

Paco,
Chouchou, Bingo, Papy
Paco
is a friendly puppy, Chewchew and Bingo are sharp-witted mice, and Papy
is a little bird; each of them are inseparable friends with Cinderella.
They not only help the girl with her domestic chores and comfort her, but
also arrange for the carriage carrying the King’s messengers to return to
Cinderella’s house so that she too can try on the crystal shoe lost during
the ball in the Emerald Castle. In the end, all their efforts are
crowned with success. Thus, Charles and Cinderella are married and live
happily ever after.
