CHARACTERS

THE BEAR

The Bear, by nature, is never inclined to waste energy, but usually, when it decides to do something, it does it well. It is fully aware that, in woods and forests, survival depends on keeping a good lookout. So, in spite of its habitual laziness, it is always on the alert. In our story, a young bear with its head in the clouds, lets its imagination run wild while along with a hare while observing a lesson about a special kind of conifer. In the end, the youngster risks getting lost, and realizes that, regardless of the situation, a bear must always be fully alert.

THE BEE

Bees work tirelessly all day long to transform nectar from flowers into honey, and as we know, each bee carries out the job it is assigned with meticulous efficiency. In our story, a bee called Ron Ron is convinced that the guards at the hive are lazy "ne’er-do-wells." And so, it decides to go into business for itself. However,it soon realizes that, while it’s out collecting pollen, hornets and flies are eating its supply of honey.  All this will make our bee realize that, not only are we all important for each other, but that we must also never judge others too harshly.

THE CAT

Cats are extremely independent, and it's sometimes said that they are too selfish to be loyal. On occasion, however, those we tend not to trust can be full of agreeable surprises. For the case in question, a cat pays a pig ten fish for some medicinal honey, but then, when it finds out the honey was supposed to be used to help heal a sick dog, immediately relinquishes all rights to its purchase, personally taking the honey to the patient.

THE DOG

Dogs are persevering, faithful, eager to please, and have been known as “man’s best friend” for millennia. On a farm, an old guard dog doesn’t want the other animals to notice he’s getting old. What can he do to keep his reputation alive?  He has no choice, but to accept his situation gracefully, and place his experience at the disposal of the strength and courage of a younger dog named Fido.

THE GOAT

Goats, much like sheep, always stay together and only a sudden explosion or some other accident can break them up.  They live a community existence and, on their own, it would probably be difficult for them to survive.  Much can be learned from their community spirit… as a group of pigs discovered.  The pigs were always arguing among themselves about who should do what chore, and neglected to do anything. So, when winter came, they didn’t have enough supplies to last until spring. Fortunately, the goats, who had more supplies than they needed, came to their rescue…

THE MONKEY

We know for sure that the monkey’s ability to imitate is very developed, that it is very curious, and that it loves to observe the world it lives in. One day, after watching a bear stuffing itself with food that it would need for hibernation, a monkey tried to do the same thing, but ended up with a terrible bellyache. There can be little doubt that from that day on, the monkey was more careful in choosing its role model.

THE FOX

More often than not, the fox is presented in fairytales as the paragon of craftiness…. In fact, once upon a time when a bear caught many fish one morning, there was a fox lurking in the same neighborhood.  The fox decides not to let such a succulent treat slip through its fingers, and, after sabotaging a rope bridge so that it would support its weight only, it steals the fish. But just as it was crossing the bridge, convinced it had outwitted the enraged bear, the rope span then gives way. The fox had calculated that the sabotaged ropes would bear its weight, but had forgotten the added weight of the fish. The moral of the story is that knowhow and craftiness are often ineffectual in the face of greed and the lust for possession….
